Despite the simplicity and associated lower cost, there are many considerations when selecting a straight staircase. Open sides, against a wall, between two walls, or with a half or quarter landing? Are the treads to be open or closed? Although straight flights of stairs are simple in design, many options are available. Ottawa Valley Handrailing understands this and constructs straight staircases that are functional and can be utilitarian or elegant, depending on what you are looking for.
The presence of one long flight makes this staircase limited in height. In accordance with the Ontario Building Code, the height of a straight staircase is limited to 3.7m (12ft 2”) without a break (e.g. landing) [OBC 9.8.3.3].
